"Around That Crucifiction Cross"

By: Quentin Clingerman

Around that crucifiction Cross
Stood a motley crew
Hardened soldiers from afar
Looked on with scorn
Except one

Around that crucifiction Cross
Stood scoffers rude
Taunts and jeers were their sympathy
Looked on in derision
In arrogant disdain

Around that crucifiction Cross
Stood family
Mother with sorrow pierced heart
Perhaps brothers and sisters too
In disconsolate grief

Around that crucifiction Cross
Stood forlorn friends
Bewildered, confused, devastated
In silent disbelief
A courageous few

Around that crucifiction Cross
With which group would you identify?
With which group would you indentify?
