"To Win The Battle"

By: Tom Atterberry

In ancient fields they fought their way to freedom
from the Brits
so many a good fellow died
then the other half of my ancient blood
were never one to quit
so though this is the modern times
they say
I must battle a different foe
one that attacks you from the inside
and can eat at your very soul
But I will win or lose
depending on your thought
but this is my fate
this is all I have got
and to me to have lived a bit longer
and to have at least touched one heart
Will be my victory for the biggest part
So I will hold the flag of the emerald isle
and wear war paint throughout my battle, see
for this is the nature of my bloodline
and how it must be;
and if I fall in this conflict
I am still a winner it is true
for I have offered my God given talent
a poem from me to you.
